Role Description

We are looking for an experienced Bridge Design Engineer, to join our client, a local authority covering North East London, on an ongoing contract basis. 

Candidates must be able to provide sound evidence of working in an organisation or business within either the public or private sector, in the highway structural engineering and maintenance field.  A minimum of 5 years experience in this field is required for this particular role. 

Duties will include:

  • Delivery of bridge related schemes 
  • General and Principal Inspection of highway structures 
  • Checking and approving technical drawings and documents

Essential skills/experience:

  • Background in delivering bridge-related schemes
  • General and principal inspection of highway structures
  • Checking & approving technical drawings & documents
  • Project Management
  • Autocad experience
  • Minimum qualification of first degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or similar equivalent
  • Knowledge and understanding of wide range of highway structural design, construction, assessment and maintenance methods.
  • Ability to present reports sometimes of a contentious nature to a large audience and to defend the Council's policy/stance on the issue.
  • Ability to promote and encourage innovation and excellence within the Section.
  • Excellent IT skills including the ability to use Microsoft and bespoke engineering software packages.
  • Car owner/driver/valid car driving licence.
  • Fit and mobile for site work


Start date: ASAP

Contract duration: Initial 3 months, then ongoing depending upon workload

Rate: c.£26.90 per hour - Limited Company.  This role has been deemed to fall outside of IR35.

Working hours: c.36 per week

Location: North East London
