Role Description

Experienced Electrical Engineer required for an ongoing contract role, working for the Building Services and Maintenance Department of our client, a local authority covering North London & Middx.

Job Description: 

Undertaking small or medium planned maintenance or improvement projects, including preparation of specifications, schedules of work, drawings as necessary and procuring either through quotations or through the Measured Term Contract for Mechanical & Electrical works. This will also include providing electrical input to building projects led by a Building Surveyor. 

Supporting delivery of Responsive Maintenance works to council premises (including schools), with regard to electrical engineering works, ensuring works are appropriately prioritised and attended to, through the Measured Term Contract for Mechanical & Electrical works or other contract. 

Taking turn on a rota to provide Out of Hours cover for Responsive Maintenance, fielding any calls referred by the Careline / Customer Services Team out of core hours, referring these to the appropriate contractor and providing any necessary support or contact to ensure issues are satisfactorily dealt with. Maintain records of calls and ensure these are followed up the following working day as necessary. 

Supporting the Lead Building Services Engineer with the provision of service contracts for council premises (including schools), with regard to electrical works. This shall include all servicing of a statutory nature and other servicing essential to maintain buildings in a safe state, and operating efficiently. This includes, but is not limited to, fixed wiring test and inspection, fire alarms, portable appliance testing, lifts (servicing and insurance inspections), CCTV, and subsequent remedial works. Given that this area of work is critical to the delivery of the Council’s role as Corporate Landlord, robust management of this work is critical including sound practices for retaining and retrieving certification to demonstrate compliance, whether this be via the new Asset Management System Atrium, or other means pending full implementation of this system. 

Undertake feasibility studies, condition surveys, inspections, reports, etc. and provide advice in support of the above areas of maintenance, contributing to the effective asset management of the council’s built assets.

Support the Lead Building Services Engineer with management of the Measured Term Contract for Mechanical and Electrical Works (Reactive Maintenance, Service Contracts and Minor Improvements), including maintaining / collating data for production of KPIs as required for the Council’s and team’s performance management regimes (including via the Asset Management System Atrium, where appropriate). 

Contribute to the development and use of the corporate asset management system, Atrium, including use of the system for all processes associated with ordering, verification of documents and invoices, compliance recording and reporting and any other workflow requirements. 



Candidates should be qualified to HNC level in Electrical Engineering, preferably B.Eng Electrical.  


Contract details:

Rate: c. £24-26 p/h (negotiable).  This post falls inside IR35.  

Working Hours: 36 hrs per week

Duration: 3 months rolling contract

Start date: ASAP
